Nanaimo is the hub of Vancouver Island. Located on the east side of Vancouver Island,
it is about two hours driving time north of Victoria and an hour and a half away by ferry from Horseshoe Ban and
Tsawwassen on the mainland. They are each in turn about 30 - 60 minutes (or more) away from Vancouver depending on
traffic. Salt Spring Island lies to the east of Vancouver Island, and is about mid-way between Nanaimo and
Victoria. Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino are to the west, and Courtenay, Comox and Port Hardy are to the
north. Nitinat Lake is a popular destination for board sailors. Hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing and scuba diving
are popular activities all over Vancouver Island.
